Gustave Flaubert escribió sobre las banderas: “Están tan manchadas de barro y sangre que deberían desaparecer de una vez”. En el Estallido Social ocurrió todo lo contrario: surgieron y se utilizaron banderas diversas, desde la chilena modificada, como la baleada o la negra, hasta las mapuches Wenüfoye y Wuñelfe, reflejando un panorama plural de símbolos.

Aunque estas banderas revelan valores y sentido de pertenencia, resulta difícil identificar un emblema que unifique a todos los participantes. La diversidad de símbolos refleja la complejidad del país y la riqueza de su multiculturalidad, recordándonos que la identidad colectiva no siempre se expresa en un solo estandarte, sino en la multiplicidad de voces y experiencias que conviven en Chile.

Gustave Flaubert wrote about flags: “They are so stained with mud and blood that they should disappear once and for all.” In the Social Uprising, the opposite happened: various flags emerged and were used, from the modified Chilean flag—such as the bullet-riddled or black flag—to the Mapuche Wenüfoye and Wuñelfe flags, reflecting a pluralistic landscape of symbols.

Although these flags reveal values and a sense of belonging, it is difficult to identify an emblem that unifies all participants. The diversity of symbols reflects the complexity of the country and the richness of its multiculturalism, reminding us that collective identity is not always expressed in a single banner, but in the multiplicity of voices and experiences that coexist in Chile.
